In 2008, HarperCollins published my book, Bringing the Boy Home. After struggling to write my second book, I went back to school and got an MFA in Writing for Children and Young Adults from VCFA. I still struggled. After graduating, I put down the pen and picked up a camera. While taking a workshop on visual voice, the instructor pointed out how my images were all narrative.
At first the connection was a surprise, quickly followed by “but of course!” I was still telling stories, but this time through the lens of a camera. It wasn’t until after I put these photos together that I realized they are all inspired by various works of literature I’ve enjoyed.
